Pharmacobiological Chemist (Chemistry Sciences University, Saltillo, Coahuila) and Medical Surgeon (La Salle University, Mexico City), with a degree in General Medicine and Gerontology. She has passed the Academic Development and Update for the Physician, endorsed by the Faculty of Medicine of the National University of Mexico (UNAM).
She is director of the Scientific Research Institute Hans Selye since it was founded in 1976 and founder and director of the Gerontology School Heberto Alcázar-Montenegro, since 1996. She is also founder and Director of the Gerontology Center Albert Szent-Györgyi, since 1986.
Since 1976 to date she has provided clinical practice, tending to an endless number of patients with a variety of pathologies. In parallel she has participated in congresses of the Geriatric and Gerontology Society of Mexico, the Mexican Association of Clinical Biochemistry and other national and international congresses.
She has accomplished diverse social and teaching activities along with the Ministry of Health and the Life Plan Gerontology Center, San Pablo Community Shelter, the National Pedagogic University and in the project Health, Wellbeing and Ageing in Querétaro.
She has been working with: coenzymes (cocarboxylase or thiamine pyrophosphate, commercial name X-2; nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide or NAD, commercial name, N-N); enzymes (ribonuclease, commercial name CRO-50; deoxyribonuclease, commercial name, DNSM); nucleic acids (tRNA, interferon inducer, commercial name, RNA), gland implants (pituitary and pineal), and tissue implant (bone marrow). Those molecules were stabilized by her father, Professor Heberto Alcázar-Montenegro since the 1950s.
She has published more than 50 articles in national and international specialized magazines, and has participated in the creation of several scientific books.
She has received the following awards:
- Due to her scientific work, in 1988 she was inscribed into the Institute of Scientific Investigations Hans Selye A.C.; in the National Register of Scientific and Technological institutions (CONACYT) with the number 88/256, and the RENIECYT, Internal Commission of Evaluation of the National Register of Scientific and Technological Institutions and Companies.
- The Premio Nacional Gerontológico (National Gerontology Award) 1990 for the work: “Electrophysiological effect of stable cocarboxylase (PPT) In in vitro solution and its clinical correlation.”, granted by the Geriatric and Gerontologic Society of Mexico A.C.
- The Premio Nacional Gerontológico (National Gerontology Award) 1992 for the work: “Electrophysiological demonstration of the effect of stable cocarboxylase in solution, in the recuperation of the potential of the membrane in cortical neurons of old and adult rats” granted by the Geriatric and Gerontologic Society of Mexico A.C.
- First place in the Area of Clinical Chemistry in 1992 for the work: “Activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase in diabetic patients treated with thiamine pyrophosphate or cocarboxylase” granted by the Mexican Association of Clinical Biochemistry A.C.
- First place in the category of Free Work 1999 with the work: “Investigations on the Biology of Ageing”, granted by the Geriatric and Gerontologic Society of Mexico A.C.
- First place in the Symposium: “Technological Investigation and Development in Querétaro 2004”, within the area Impulse to Investigation in the Health Sector, with the work: “Chronic administration of cocarboxylase diminished the progression of trophic changes associated with the ageing of rat testicles”, in the city of Querétaro, Qro.
- Honorific Mention for the participation in the work: “Histological characteristics of the chronic administration of thiamine pyrophosphate in senile Wistar rats”, presented in the IV Pan American Congress of Gerontology and Geriatrics 2007.
- Annual Diploma for having satisfactorily approved the monographic course, “Academic Updating and Development for General Medics” from 2000, granted by the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM.
- Recognition from the Medical School of Querétaro for her constancy, determination and humanism during 33 years in the professional practice of Medicine, in Querétaro, 2007.
